A Definition for Your Day

zaf·tig /ˈzɑftɪk, -tɪg/
Pronunciation Key - [zahf-tik, -tig] –adjective
Slang.

1. (of a woman) having a pleasantly plump figure.
2. full-bodied; well-proportioned.

Also, zoftig.

[Origin: 1935–40; < Yiddish zaftik lit., juicy, succulent; cf. MHG saftec, deriv. of saf(t), OHG saf (G Saft) sap1, juice]

I realize that when Webster sat down to write the "Z" section, he was probably pretty ready to be done with it. I'm sure he was frustrated with this once-wonderful idea, and maybe thought, "I'll just leave off at "Y". Lucky for us he didn't, because we would have never heard of this wonderful word, ZAFTIG. For those of you who haven't heard the word anyway, I want to break it down for you into it's component parts.
First of all, notice that it is an adjective, and specifically regarding a woman.
Secondly, it includes the words "pleasantly plump". It is not meant to be a dig, although I'm not sure I would be happy to hear it directed towards me.
Also notice that, toward the bottom of the definition, it says, "juicy, succulent... derivative of... juice." Interesting, eh?
Lastly, I must point out that this beautiful word comes from the native tongue of my ancestors: Yiddish. Yes, only the Jewish people could produce such a wonderful word.
Feel free to use this word at any time. No one will know what it means, and they will see you as a brilliant scholar.
Just don't use it around my grandmother. She's Jewish. She'll know.

GRR.

Something very unfun happened yesterday. I'm afraid I'm still thinking about it...

I'm still here...

I realize it's been almost a week, and everything's been happening. I am so tired, and glad that I don't have class tomorrow, but I am really just emotionally drained and need to go to bed. I've been sitting here at the computer, trying to tire myself out enough to want to go to sleep, and I've succeeded. I hope you all are doing well; if not, call me. I'm home most of the time, and if I'm not than just leave a message. I love all of you, and the Lord does as well. His favor is on you.
I'll write more soon. I've got some good stories from school I want to tell you. =)
Goodnight, all.

Frezned Frenzy - My Obsession with a YouTube Vlogger

"Hi. I'm _________, and I'm a YouTube addict."

How many of us could say those words? There are hundreds of millions of viewers on YouTube each day, many following a certain Channel or individual, and many simply "surfing the web". I am one of those viewers.
Yes, I have a bone to pick with YouTube. They allow plenty of raunchy and disgusting material on their site, with little or no visible supervision or administration. However, this lack of set rules sort of gives it a kind of mystical freedom. It is simply a website by the people, for the people. And one of those people is Tom McLean, the dark-haired Australian vlogger with which I am obsessed.

I must explain to you, I hardly use the word "obsessed", especially when referring to myself. I suppose I hate to admit my issues, like everyone else on the face of the planet. However, this is one instance in which I feel completely at home using
the o-word.
In addition to his YouTube videos, Tom, aka "Frezned", reveals his thoughts to the world through a weekly column in his local newspaper, the "Geelong Advertiser". This newspaper, originating from his hometown of Geelong, Australia, appears to have adopted Tom as it's new boy-wonder. It distributes his column both in print and online, and holds his sometimes random words in high regard.
And so do I.
I have found myself taken with this Aussie amateur. He continues to hold my attention and fascination to the point where I am almost a cult follower of his videos, and was nearly devestated to hear that he was going backpacking in Toronto, and wouldn't be posting new videos for at least a few weeks.
The only downside of this preoccupation, beyond wasting an amount of time limited only to Tom's video-posting whims, is that he is, at times, not as careful with his language and conduct as I wish him to be. This is the sole reason why I cannot completely recommend his comedy to you. Sad, but true.
Nevertheless, I find myself in love with a YouTube vlogger that I have never known, and who lives halfway across the globe. Tom McLean, you've ruined my life.
Excuse me, but I must go. I have a certain YouTube channel I need to check on.

Trust is a factor.

I saw a shirt yesterday at Goodwill that had a Fear Factor logo on the front. On the back it said, "For me, fear is not a factor". I was thinking about my struggle with trust, and oh boy. Well, you saw the title up there.
It didn't occur to me until yesterday that I wasn't involving God at all in my planning for school this fall. I was trying to "figure it out", but I hadn't asked His help. And boy, did I need it. He finally reminded me about two nights ago. (I guess that was when my heart and mind were finally calm enough to listen.) He reminded me that I hadn't asked His help, and that it would all be in His hands, if I was only willing. I was.
I gave it over. I didn't know how things would work out, when my family wanted me to come with them on vacation this week and I start school next week. But I told Him I trusted Him, and then I felt that He wanted me to go with my family. So here I am. My mom came to me yesterday and said that she is willing to drive me home early. I'm not sure if that's what God is wanting me to do, but it could very well be provision. I'm looking for God's will, but mostly I'm looking for Him. I'm not a fabulous seeker but I'm blessed with having a Father who is.

A Tribute

I just want to take a moment to give justice to four amazing creatures who never get any media, as far as I know. These little guys are in the background, working their hardest to do their job, as they have been since 1980. Their names are Blinky, Pinky, Inkey, and Clyde.
You may have heard of these colorfully spectral characters previously. You may have even met them as you played a game that originated off of an unusual inspiration: a pizza with one slice taken out of it. Have you guessed it yet?
If not, I have a hint for you. It was created by a man named Tohru Iwatani, and would have been called "Puck Man".
That's right. I am talking about the all-time marvel of video-game engineering... PacMan. It's a game for you, and her, and him, and them... and their cousin.
Of course, I am talking about original PacMan here. None of that "PacWorld", "Mrs.Pac", "SimPac" garbage. This is real old school gaming entertainment. And yes, I have made it available to you right here, free of charge.
Enjoy.

The Harpist

A hungry old man with a long gray beard sits with his back against a cold stone wall, his eyes closed and his legs stretched out before him into the street. Above the wall, far above the man, are seen the tall spires of a royal home, for the wall that he sits against is an outer wall of the majestic palace belonging to the reigning king of the land. The man's lips curve into a half-smile, the only sign that he is, indeed, awake.
It is not obvious at a glance what holds the man in such a trance, what causes the deep look of rapture and light on his face. When one steps closer, however, he can hear the source of the man's joy: a soft sound of angelic music coming from within the palace and boyond the cold stone that the man leans against.
The harpist who sits within the walls has no knowledge of the new life that his song is bringing to those outside the wall. He thinks only of pleasing the king, as he sings a song that he composed for His Majesty alone.
The man outside mouths the words in echo to the harpist's singing.
“As the deer pants for the water, so my soul longs after you;
you alone are my heart's desire, and I long to worship you.”
It is the song of his own heart, expressed in a beauty and simplicity that he has never known. He leans back into the wall, suddenly feeling the new warmth that surrounds him, a warmth that comes from communion with the King.

The Shack Review

Ok, so I promised some kind of review about The Shack. I just want to tell y'all a little about the book and what I think.
Spoiler Warning: If you're planning on reading the book, you probably don't want to read this, as I'll be saying some stuff that you'd probably not want to know ahead of time.

I'm not sure where to begin, but I guess the front cover is just as good as anywhere. It calls the book a "novel". That was something I didn't like, nor did I agree with. I mean, it's not that big of a deal, since the book kind of starts out that way, but I didn't like the fact that it turned from being a novel into being a study on theology. After awhile, it started losing my attention. Sure, he threw in some transitions and interesting descriptions, but really, it was not what I was expecting.
Also, I wasn't ok with some of the liberties he took, including his representation(s) of God. I don't believe that God is a human (besides the person of Jesus, of course). He is a spiritual being, and definately involved in our lives, but that does not mean he is human. I believe that when the Bible says we are "made in the image of God", it is specifically talking about his attributes and character, not the way he looks. It wasn't necessarily the people chosen to represent God that I didn't like, what i didn't like was the fact that the author personified the attributes of God in the way that he did. Specifically, I didn't think it was necessary to use women to play the part of God. Of course he's gentle, and a comforter, etc, but I think it just wasn't necessary to use women to show that part of his character. I'm not prejudiced (at least, I don't think I am), I just feel that the "feminine" side of God has been overplayed by certain people, and that God is definately a Father, if nothing else. (As you may have read in the book Ultimate Intention by Fromke). [I hope all that didn't come out wrong.]
Beyond that, there were just a few things said that I didn't necessarily agree with. E.g. Authority needn't exist, man and woman should have equal say and share in everything, he is never disappointed in us, etc. I'm not saying that I am right in my thoughts, I just don't necessarily believe that these things are all correct.
However, I need to balance out all that I just said with a word for the other side. Did I disagree with everything in the book? Certainly not! The insight the author had into the heart of God was very amazing, and I could tell that he had gotten some major revelation prior to and during the writing of the book. He went places that many have been afraid to, and I have to commend him on that. He really put himself on the line, and I know many have been affected by this book in a positive way. He showed the goodness of God, the intimacy between the trinity, and the love the Father has for his children in greater ways than I've seen before. And I especially like the way that Jesus was shown in the book. He was very real and caring, and relatable.
I can't outright recommend this book to be read, and I'm not going to become a sudden advocate just because the book has become popular. However, there were definately good points. If you were planning on reading The Shack, and haven't yet, don't let me stop you. Read it yourself, and establish your own opinion. Also, if you have thoughts of your own, please share them.
If you think I was being to harsh here, and you disagree with anything I said, let me know, ok? I want to hear anything you have to say!

The Shack

Ok, for those of you who have yet to read The Shack by William Young, it is definately an intense and hard hitting book. I think it's more intense mentally than emotionally, but it's still intense. I am not going to give any type of opinion or review at this time, as I have a quarter of it yet to read. However, I definately have an opinion, and I would like to hear yours. Let me know what you think.
What I do want to do for you is just to give a couple of quotes from the book, a little something to whet your taste. Here you are:

"I am what some would say 'holy, and wholly other than you.' The problem is that many folks try to grasp some sense of who I am by taking the best version of themselves, projecting that to the nth degree, factoring in all the goodness they can perceive, which often isn't much, and then call that God. And while it may seem like a noble effort, the truth is that it falls pitifully short of who I really am. I'm not merely the best version of you that you can think of. I am far more than that, above and beyond all that you can ask or think."

"A bird's not defined by being grounded but by his ability to fly. Remember this, humans are not defined by their limitations, but by the intentions that I have for them; not by what they seem to be, but by everything it means to be created in My image."
